ENT Made Easy: BEST Reaching Out

ENT Made Easy: BEST Reaching Out

The PSOHNS Bicol Chapter or Bicol ENT Specialists (BEST) was officially recognized as a chapter in 2002. Although the group of seven pioneering otorhinolaryngologists set up their practice in the three biggest provinces of the region, there were still many places not served by an ENT.  Thus, the Chapter’s advocacy of “REACHING OUT” was born.

To date, there have been 6 postgraduate courses covering underserved areas in the Bicol Region. In partnership with the local medical societies, the first ENT Made Easy Postgraduate Course was held in 2004 in Legazpi City, Albay. In 2012, the course was held in the island of Masbate, where no ENT was practicing yet.  Two years later, it was held in Virac, Catanduanes, which was being served by 1 board eligible ENT at that time. In 2016, we then ventured north to Daet, Camarines Norte, and in 2018 down south in Sorsogon.  Due to popular demand, another course was held a year later in Nabua, Camarines Sur.

In 2019, our postgraduate course in Nabua, Camarines Sur marked the accomplishment of the Chapter’s primary goal 15 years ago…

To reach out to all 6 provinces in the Bicol Region, especially those localities without an ENT.

Through these visits, we were able to touch base with local physicians and allied medical personnel, gather information about the situation in their communities, and foster better communication with primary care workers, thereby enabling them to be partners in the delivery of basic ENT care.

We aim to continue reaching out in the coming years, teaching basic ENT skills, and transferring knowledge to those who need it.
